In the 150 years since Schöll's seminal work, the Prytaneion Decree has been studied frequently. Of the groups of honourees mentioned in the decree, the agonistic victors have received the least attention. Most scholars have simply attributed them, without further discussion, to the sphere of war or to the sphere of religion. In this article, athletics is understood as a sphere of action with its own logic: the passages on athletes in the decree are examined in detail and situated within the debate in classical Athens about whether victors of the Panhellenic Games should be honoured by the polis and to what extent. The strange duplication in the decree, which first regulates honours for agonistic victors in general and, in a second paragraph, honours for hippic victors, is related to some texts that viewed hippic victories more critically than gymnic ones. A precise dating of the decree is not possible, but there were several events in the fifth century that might have created the desire among Athenians for a general regulation of sitêsis for athletes.

Background:
A feedforward pathological signaling loop generated by TNFα and IFN-γ synergy in the inflamed lung, driving CXCL-10 (IP-10) and CXCL-9 chemokine-mediated activated T-cell and monocyte/macrophage tissue recruitment, may define the inflammatory biology of lethal COVID-19 respiratory failure.
Methods:To assess TNFα-antagonist therapy, 18 hospitalized adults with hypoxic respiratory failure and COVID-19 pneumonia received single-dose infliximab-abda therapy 5 mg/kg intravenously between April and December 2020. The primary endpoint was time to increase in oxygen saturation to fraction of inspired oxygen ratio (SpO2/FiO2) by ≥50 compared to baseline and sustained for 48 h. Secondary endpoints included 28-day mortality, dynamic cytokine profiles, secondary infections, duration of supplemental oxygen support, and hospitalization.
Findings:Patients were predominantly in critical respiratory failure (15/18, 83%), male (14/18, 78%), above 60 years (median 63 years, range 31–80), race-ethnic minorities (13/18, 72%), lymphopenic (13/18, 72%), steroid-treated (17/18, 94%), with a median ferritin of 1953 ng/ml. Sixteen patients (89%) met the primary endpoint within a median of 4 days; 14/18 (78%) were discharged in a median of 8 days and were alive at 28-day follow-up. Three deaths were attributed to secondary lung infection. Mean plasma IP-10 levels declined sharply from 9183 to 483 pg/ml at Day 3 and 146 pg/ml at Day 14/discharge. Significant Day 3 declines in IFN- $\gamma $ , TNFα, IL-27, CRP, and ferritin occurred. IP-10 and CXCL-9 declines were strongly correlated among patients with lymphopenia reversal (Day 3, Pearson r: 0.98, P-value 0.0006).
Interpretation:Infliximab-abda may rapidly abrogate pathological inflammatory signaling to facilitate clinical recovery in severe and critical COVID-19.

Summary
Since the late nineteenth century, scholars have discussed if Greek athletes were ‘amateurs’ or ‘professionals’. Analysing the ancient evidence on time, money, social status and group identity, this article argues that neither of the two terms helps in understanding the social reality of ancient athletes.

Summary
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPORT AND MONEY: MODERN AND ANCIENT CONCEPTIONS
For it is out of the innermost mind of the merchant, who will never understand war, that sport is born.
Werner SombartNo, stranger, for you do not look to me like a man who knows contests, such as abound among men, but like one who, faring to and fro with his benched ship, is a captain of sailors who are merchantmen, one who is mindful of his freight and keeps close watch on his cargo and the gains of his greed. No, you do not seem an athlete.
Euryalos in Homer, Odyssey 8.159–64There are different opinions about the relationship between sport and money. Euryalos’ speech in the Odyssey displays the view of a warriorathlete who despises merchants. It is directed to the unknown stranger – Odysseus has not yet revealed his identity – who first declines to take part in the Phaeacians’ athletic activity. But the words of Euryalos are too much; Odysseus takes a discus and throws it far further than the Phaeacians did, thus demonstrating who the real warrior-athlete is.
While in these verses sport is connected with glory and opposed to commerce, for Werner Sombart sport is rooted in commerce. That is a strange idea that can only be understood by considering the context of the First World War. Like many intellectuals, the famous economist and sociologist felt it a duty to make his contribution when millions of young countrymen risked their life on the battlefields. In 1915, he published his book Merchants and Heroes, which he dedicated to the German soldiers. In his opinion, the war was a culmination of a long-standing conflict between the world's two leading cultures: the English, commercial culture on the one hand side and the German, heroic culture on the other. In fact, the book is a sharp invective against England and almost every aspect of the English tradition. The English, Sombart claimed, lacked any noteworthy contribution to philosophy, arts or music; they were only devoted to commerce. Sport is a part of this picture. According to Sombart, sport had its roots in commerce, and sport suppressed the intellect and the war spirit.

Let $M$ be a compact manifold. We show that the identity component $\operatorname{Homeo}_{0}(M)$ of the group of self-homeomorphisms of $M$ has a well-defined quasi-isometry type, and study its large-scale geometry. Through examples, we relate this large-scale geometry to both the topology of $M$ and the dynamics of group actions on $M$. This gives a rich family of examples of non-locally compact groups to which one can apply the large-scale methods developed in previous work of the second author.

Objectives: We undertook this study to assess the immediate and long-term outcome of balloon angioplasty performed for recurrent or residual coarctation of the aorta, and to assess the changes in the vessel wall caused by this procedure. Methods: Clinical, echocardiographic, angiographic and hemodynamic data from 71 patients who underwent balloon angioplasty for recoarctation between January 1987 and January 1998 were analysed retrospectively. Results: Angioplasty was performed after a median of 82.6 months (range 1.4 mo – 20.9 y, mean 88.5 mo) following surgery for coarctation. Mean systolic pressure gradients were reduced from 27±15 mmHg to 11 ± 11 m m Hg after angioplasty (p< 0.0001). The mean diameter at the site of recoarctation increased from 5.5±2.5 to 7.5±2.7 mm(p< 0.0001). Outpouchings of contrast agents, indicating the disruption of the inner layers of the vessel wall, were defined as extravasations. They were observed in one-quarter of the angiograms performed immediately after the intervention. Immediate success of angioplasty was achieved in 71%, and persisted in 69% of patients during long-term follow up. The main determinant for immediate success was the age at the time of the procedure (p<0.05), while the main determinant for long-term success was the increase achieved in diameter. Extravasations did not progress to aneurysms, neither acutely nor during echocardiographic follow-up studies. For further follow-up, more sensitive imaging techniques will be necessary to delineate the morphology of the site of extravasation observed immediately after angioplasty.
